Planning of lot lines

The lot line is dimensioned by the property’s water supply and sewage (KVV) designer. Each property must have a building-specific shut-off valve outside the building, in the immediate vicinity of the connection point.

The materials used in the water supply system must be materials suitable for the purpose that have been tested and inspected for their quality. The lot water pipe must withstand an internal overpressure of at least 1,000 kPa (10 bar).  (Decree of the Ministry of the Environment on Water Supply and Sewerage Equipment of Properties 1047/2017)

The permitted DN sizes or diameters of water pipes are 40, 63, 90 and 110 millimetres. DN size refers to the outer diameter in plastic pipes and to the inner diameter in metal pipes.

Branching of water pipes

If the property’s water and sewer plans specify connecting to HSY’s network using a lot line shared with another property, we will need the contract on the shared pipes before the connection work is ordered.

Please note that the branching of the water pipe must be carried out outside the building and each branch must be fitted with its own shut-off.

Branching before the main meter is to be carried out only by HSY. Branching by other operators is not approved. The customer is responsible for any branching after the main meter.

The water pipe under the building must be installed in a smooth-walled protective tube or crawl space so that it is possible to replace the pipe. The protective tube must not have corners that impede the replacement of the pipe.

Only blue-striped pipe approved for water pipe use may be used as the lot water pipe. Only a brown-striped pipe intended for pressure sewer use may be used as the property’s pressure sewer. Materials can be agreed on otherwise in special cases, but pipes with blue and brown stripes must not be used in place of each other.

The water pipe must be installed deep enough to ensure that the water in it does not freeze. According to the Decree of the Ministry of the Environment on Water Supply and Sewerage Equipment of Properties (1047/2017), a water pipe installed in the ground is to be placed at a frost-free depth. If the covering depth is smaller, the pipe is to be equipped with heating or must be sufficiently insulated. As a rule, the accompanying heating cable must be installed outside the water pipe.

The maximum size of an individual sewer connection is DN 300. The size of the main line must be taken into account when planning the sewerage of the property, as the connecting manhole may not be connected to with a pipe that is larger than the main line. The pipe connections may only be built with a pipe that is two orders of magnitude smaller than the main line.

HSY is not responsible for the feasibility of the property’s water supply and sewage (KVV) plans.
