Requirements concerning the water meter room
The water meter is owned by HSY, but the water meter room and the plot water pipe are the responsibility of the customer. On this page, you will find the regulations and instructions concerning the water meter room, which you must follow as our customer. HSY is not liable for any damage that may be caused by structures that do not comply with the regulations and instructions.
General requirements for the water meter room
Careful consideration should be given to the location of the water meter. The meter will be on the property for the duration its life cycle, and water will condense on the surface of the meter during hot summers. This may result in mould if the meter space does not comply with the instructions.
Things to note in particular:
The water pipes to be installed in the building and the location of the water meter must be planned so that any water leakage can be easily detected. In order to detect water leaks, structural solutions must be used that direct the leakage water to where it can be seen. The water meter must also be protected against freezing and heat.
The water meter must be installed in a room with a floor drain located immediately inside the foundation wall at the place where the plot water pipe goes into the building.
Things to note in particular:
- The water meter room must have a floor drain.
- The water meter must be installed on a sturdy wall or on a rack.
- The water pipes both before and after the water meter must be supported.
- The location of the water meter in relation to the electrical cabinet and other electrical and electronic equipment must comply with the regulations, and the electrical equipment must be adequately splash-proofed.
- The distance between the water meter and the heat exchanger should be sufficient so that the water meter is not damaged by heat. The water meter must also be adequately protected against freezing.
- There must be unobstructed access to replace, read and maintain the water meter. Replacement work on the water meter is carried out with a 0.5-metre-long pipe wrench. Please ensure that, for example, the possible enclosure of the water meter, the district heating meter or the pipes do not prevent access to or the replacement of the water meter.
- HSY replaces the water meter at approximately 10-year intervals. After replacement, the water meter should be monitored for any leaks.
Requirements concerning the dimensions of the water meter room
- The installation height of the water meter measured from the floor must be between 500 millimetres and 1,000 millimetres from the floor.
- The height of the water meter room must be at least 1,600 mm.
- If more than one water meter is added to the location, the meters are installed on top of each other on a meter rod, which should be taken into account in the height of the meter room.
- At least 600 mm (A) of working space should be left in front of the water meter for the installer of the meter. The pipe must be approximately 130–150 mm (C) away from the wall so that the meter rack can be installed. The height of the meter is 800–1,000 mm, depending on the size of the meter.
