Waste services for companies and corporations

The Waste Act includes restrictions that companies and corporations must take into account when using HSY’s services.

Please also note that only the company’s CEO as entered in the Trade Register or a person authorised by the CEO may act on behalf of the company. Authorisation is needed for the “Conclusion of property management contracts and service orders”. For more information, please visit hsy.fi/en/hsy/customer-service/suomi.fi-services-at-hsy.

If you cannot get the authorisations to work, please check the authorisations in the Suomi.fi service. You can also contact the Digital and Population Data Services Agency’s customer service either by email at organisaatiopalvelut@dvv.fi or by phone at +358 295 535 115 (weekdays from 10 am to 3 pm).

HSY’s customer service will assist you if the issue concerns something other than authorisation.

Delivering waste to HSY’s reception points

A van has stopped at a Sortti Station. Waste sorting points can be seen in the background.

According to the Waste Act, HSY may offer a secondary waste management service to companies and corporations.

HSY accepts waste from companies and corporations at Sortti Stations, the Ämmässuo eco-industrial centre and the Kivikko Hazardous Waste Reception Station. The Sortti Mini Station in Koivukylä, Vantaa is only for private customers.

For more detailed information about the accepted waste and using the services, please visit the location’s own website. Please note that Sortti Stations cannot be accessed by lorry or combination vehicle. The width of the car and the trailer must not exceed two metres and their combined length must not exceed 10 metres. Such loads should be delivered to the Ämmässuo eco-industrial centre.

What does secondary waste management mean?

A secondary waste management service means that a company or corporation must first search for another company to accept their waste material, either directly or via the Materiaalitori.fi online platform. HSY may provide a waste service if a service provider cannot be found among private operators on reasonable terms.
The obligation to use the Materiaalitori.fi platform does not apply to:

  • companies with a valid secondary waste management service agreement with HSY;
  • a need for waste management services due to unforeseen urgency; or
  • companies whose annual need for a secondary waste management service is less than EUR 2,000 (excluding VAT) in value.

In such cases, the waste holder may request the necessary waste management service directly from HSY.

Are you unsure if your company has an agreement with HSY? Please contact our customer service.

Collection and transport of waste from properties organised by HSY

Two men are emptying waste containers into a refuse truck. The housing company’s waste collection point can be seen in the background.

We organise the waste management of municipalities’ administrative and service activities. Companies and corporations must order waste transport from private waste management companies, with a few exceptions.

Do you need waste containers for a property?

First, please find out from your organisation who is responsible for ordering waste management services.

Companies and corporations must order waste transport from private waste management companies. Exceptions include, for example, brick-and-mortar businesses that use waste containers shared with a residential property as well as commercial properties that have joined the pipe collection system in a residential area. In these cases, HSY handles the waste transport and the property is subject to the sorting obligations imposed on residential properties. More information is available on the page Waste services for residential properties.

For municipalities’ administrative and service activities, we arrange waste transport and treatment services in Helsinki, Espoo, Kauniainen, Kirkkonummi and Vantaa. We also offer free environmental training and education for municipal functions.

In the administrative and service activities of municipalities, waste must be sorted into different collection containers if the amount of waste generated exceeds the following limits:

Waste

Municipal service property
Mixed waste always
Biowaste 10 kg / week
Carton packages and cardboard 5 kg / week
Glass packages 2 kg / week
Small metal items 2 kg / week
Plastic packages 5 kg / week
