Changes to the opening hours of the Konala and Ruskeasanta Sortti Stations

HSY is changing the weekend opening hours of the Konala and Ruskeasanta Sortti Stations from the beginning of January. Going forward, the stations will open at 11 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, i.e. one hour later than previously. Their closing time will stay the same at 6 p.m. Similarly, their weekday opening hours of 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. will remain unchanged.

– The Sortti Stations have been operating on weekends for three and a half years now, and we have found that customer visits are concentrated in the afternoon and early evening. From a resource perspective, it makes sense to open the Sortti Station an hour later, says Joonas Enqvist, Operational Manager at HSY, to justify the change.

Kivikko Sortti Station to start operating on Saturdays later in the spring

Overall, customer visits to Sortti Stations have increased by more than 55% over the past ten years and there is a clear need for more recycling services. For this reason, HSY will be extending the opening hours of the Kivikko Sortti Station to also include Saturdays in the spring. The exact date will be announced later.

– Residents have expressed a clear wish for weekend opening hours and we want to make it easier to bring waste for recycling. Extending the opening hours of the Kivikko Sortti Station will also reduce congestion at the Konala station. However, a balance must be struck between the costs of increased opening hours and the accessibility of services in order to keep customer fees in check. That is why we will keep the station closed on Sundays, Enqvist explains.

HSY maintains a total of five Sortti Stations in the Helsinki metropolitan area and Kirkkonummi, two of which currently serve residents also on weekends. In addition, the Sortti Mini Station operating in connection with the Koivukylä Reuse Centre is open on Saturdays and Sundays in accordance with the opening hours of the Reuse Centre.
