Tips for indoor storage of firewood
Room-temperature firewood is easy to light and burns more cleanly than damp and cold wood. However, only a small amount of firewood at a time should be stored in living spaces.
Bring the wood inside 1–2 days before use. This will allow the wood to dry and warm up.
Store your firewood so that there is no risk of ignition.
Do not store wood in corridors or on exit routes.
Only store the amount of firewood indoors at a time that you need for a couple of heating sessions.
A large amount of wood indoors is a risk to fire safety.
Firewood is not a good interior design element as it contains microbes and mould that can reduce indoor air quality.
More information on indoor air is available, for example, from the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) or the Organisation for Respiratory Health in Finland.
